Easy-to-follow and code-compliant maps for hospitals, doctor’s offices, and more.
Maps for Healthcare Facility Management
Any map used in a healthcare facility must be created for a specific purpose and with staff, patients, and visitors in mind. Different situations or emergencies will require various types of maps. Campus maps are informational maps used for general wayfinding and visitor management. Fire evacuation maps, severe weather maps, and security maps are all used to plan for and respond to emergencies. Our safety experts and illustrators have created maps for every kind of healthcare facility—from hospitals to doctor’s offices, clinics, and nursing homes. We will help you comply with OSHA, NFPA, and ICC regulations as well as insurance and accreditation requirements.

Why Healthcare Maps Need to be Up-To-Date
U.S. fire departments respond to an average of 5,750 fires in healthcare properties every year (National Fire Protection Association). Medical and healthcare facilities are often large, multi-level structures where patients can outnumber staff members. They are also often publicly open buildings with lots of visitors and pass-through traffic. In the event of a fire or security threat, a wrong turn could lead to a fatal injury. Risk assessment and planning is one of the best ways to prepare for and respond to fire evacuation, severe weather, or security threats before they happen. Safety maps are also used for pre-incident planning with local fire departments and other emergency services.

Healthcare Map Requirements
Evacuation maps and other emergency maps must often carefully follow NFPA, ICC, and OSHA regulations as well as any federal or state regulations, which can vary by location and facility type. Local fire codes and pre-incident planning requirements must also be considered. Maps must be customized to each facility and include features specific to the map’s purpose. These can include (but are not limited to) easy-to-read floor plans, fire exit doors, primary and secondary egress routes, location of safety equipment, labeled stairwells, building mechanicals, and shutoffs.
