Building Fire at School Admin Facility

A school administration building caught fire on Sunday evening at Winnsboro ISD in East Texas. According to the Longview News-Journal, a student was passing by late that night and saw flames coming from the top of the building.

The student, Reyna Perez, called 911 immediately and likely saved the building from much more severe damage. The school building fire left many of its windows shattered and a large hole in the roof. Winnsboro Mayor Camron Wilcox stated that the damage could’ve been much worse if not for the quick thinking of Perez.

The district made the following announcement via the Winnsboro ISD Facebook page:

“Fire Officials have determined the cause of last night’s fire at the WISD Administration building was electrical. We are still assessing damages today. All Administration Offices will be temporarily moved to the Winnsboro Memorial Intermediate Campus. Thank you again to all of the first responders, volunteers and community members for their service to WISD and their tireless efforts during the fire last night.”

Luckily, no one was in the building at the time of the fire and no one was harmed.
